"If there's any such thing as a perfect man, I think John Coltrane was one. And I think that kind of perfection has to come from a greater force than there is here on Earth."

The Second Time Around
The critic dusts off a disc--an act of reconsideration. Two and a third spins later he finds the music, though critically pumped at the time of its release, to be as problematic now as when first he heard it. The review, published at the time for a start-up monthly, is as much a relic as the now out of print disc, but is revived here as a blanket condemation of the spirit of The New Jazz.
